Title: **CANCELED** Consumer and Industry Driven Changes in Retail Potting Soils

Description:

In response to recent consumer awareness and demand for locally produced, regionally available, more sustainable, and more environmentally conscious garden products, there have been changes made to many retail potting soil brands. Additionally, new suppliers/manufacturers are now developing and selling potting soils that offer new options and opportunities for consumers. This session will address changes in the soil market, as well as information on sustainability initiatives, use of peat-alternative soil components, peat-free products, and possible product performance differences that users may need to be aware of. Retail soil product certifications from the Mulch and Soil Council will also be explained.

Key takeaways include:

  • Understanding of the current industry trends and initiatives driving changes in retail garden soil products
  • Awareness of new consumer soil products and how they may differ from traditional products
  • Understanding of the certification program from the Mulch and Soil Council on garden soils and mulches
